Background
Shot 23-30 March 1986, this was the third film of what turned out to be the Star Drek Quadrology.
As with SD1 & 2, indoor sets were created in the MWD District Office conference rooms and corridors, and Evil HQ in MWD . Head Office. Outdoor filming was in and around Lambton Quay - taking in landmarks such as the Beehive, Wellington Tavern, etc.
The previous film Star Drek 2 was a huge production and the mammoth effort everyone put in to making it succeed eventually took its toll. There was diminishing enthusiasm to create any more, so Star Drek 3 was intended as “quickie” to tie up the loose ends from SD2.
The original intention was to make SD3 as 3x 10 minute “shorts” (featuring only Jirk, Spook, Snot, and Groans) interspersed with non-star drek related humour and musical clips. This soon fell apart, and in the end we run out of time and energy to complete the project.
As a result SD3 was re-edited into a single feature, and premiered with many scenes missing, including front & end credits.
For the remastered version, all the original footage was digitally transferred to PC in April 2011. Most of the scenes were re-edited, cleaned-up, colour corrected, and resoundtracked by October 2011, although not completed until 2012 due to various personal upheavals.
All the original Special Effects (FX) and credit sequences were replaced with computer animation for the remaster
Jirk, Snotty and Groans are off to rescue Mr Spook, who has landed on an earth-like planet after having been sucked off into space, and is now held prisoner by an Evil Government Agent. Meanwhile Yukoff is at the helm of the 2ndPrise as the Klingulons swoop in for the kill.

Extended & Deleted ScenesMany scenes were never completed or filmed due to time and technology restraints. These were mainly “linking” scenes where details of the plot are explained. Existing footage from all the partially completed scenes are here, including a full re-creation of the TV shop window scene where the crew stop to view a local variant of “Star Drek” on TV, and the original ending where the crew find they are not really in space, but on a very low budget set
Behind The Scenes - Filming Days 1-4A look behind the scenes filming on days 1-4, showing the set-ups, rehearsals, and background discussions. Interesting to note some of the dialog and scenes in the final print were as a result of these on-the-fly discussions. Like the out-takes, the language used is often VERY "colourful" and completely uncensored
Remastered FX 2011As with the remastered Star Drek 1 & 2, a correctly scaled 2004 Dinky Enterprise model was photographed from various angles, converted to PNG images, then overlaid against photographic backdrops and animated in Adobe After Effects. The ships view screens were designed in Corel Draw and overlaid with animated graphics. Featuring “Spook in space” inserts and extended shots of the new animated FX.
